I'm attorney Matt Fendon and one of the questions I get asked on a regular basis is, how long do Arizona Workers' Compensation benefits last? Well, the short answer to that is, in most cases, there's no time limit. Essentially, you can have that claim for the rest of your life. So to give you some hypotheticals, if you have a heavy, very heavy intensive type job, where you lift a lot of heavy things, and you have a back injury, and you end up not being able to go back to work, after that injury, you could be entitled to a monthly check for the rest of your life, from the workers' comp carrier and medical benefits for that matter. In the same scenario, even if you are able to go back to work, you're still going to have those medical benefits potentially available to you for the rest of your life. And in addition, you can reopen your claim until the day you die, essentially. The exception to this is if you settle your case, what we call full and final settlement, where the insurance carrier says, I want to buy you out of your claim, and in that circumstance, you can never reopen your case again and your benefits will stop. So it's obviously risky to settle cases full and final, but a lot of people end up doing that as well.
